BANGKOK, Feb 5 (TNA) – The Thai government will hold the annual Makha Bucha week from Feb 15-20 to observe Macha Bucha day.
Prime Minister’s Office Minister Suwaphan Tanyuvardhana presided over the meeting to organize the Buddhism Promotion Week to invite Buddhists to cultivate good, avoid all evil and cleanse their mind.
It coincides the Makha Bucha Day, which falls on February 19 this year.
The National Office of Buddhism, the Sangha, the public and private sectors will co-organize the event across the country and at Thai temples in other countries.
The main venue is Buddhamonthon, a gathering place for Buddhists on religious occasions.
The event will run from Feb 15-20. The activities include mass prayers, meditation, listening to sermons, giving morning alms to 400 monks, the candlelight procession, the big cleaning day by volunteers at public places.
A ceremony to receive a shoot of the Sri Maha Bodhi tree from Srilanka will be held. The shoot will be planted at a temple in Ayutthaya. (TNA)
