SURIN, 20 (TNA) – Twenty elephants took part in
candle-lit procession marking Makha Bucha Day at a monastery in Thailand’s northeastern
Surin province.
The procession called “wian tian” ceremony is an important
and picturesque ritual in which people carrying candles and circumambulating in
clockwise direction three times around ordination hall or chapel.
Ethnic Kui people in Surin which is known as Thai elephant
town brought the jumbos including a pair of twins to join the procession at the
monastery.
Alongside humans and mahouts, the elephants walked around
Erawan Pavilion.
In addition to candles, Buddhists also carried lotus flowers
and incense sticks symbolizing their faith in Buddhism. (TNA)
