BANGKOK, Feb 19 (TNA) — The Election Commission (EC) urged eligible voters to register for early voting if they will be unable to cast their votes on March 24.
The EC Secretary-General Charungwit Phumma said the registration for early voting was set for Jan 28 to Feb 19 and the early voting date was on March 17.
The registration could be done at district offices or on the Internet and early voting can happen in or outside eligible voters’ constituencies or outside the kingdom, said the EC Secretary-General.
“More people have registered. It shows the eagerness of eligible voters,” Mr Charungwit said.
Feb 19 was the last day and a national holiday but district offices opened for the registration. Online registration could be done until midnight, he said. He advised eligible voters to register online at once and not to wait until the last minute when the system could be stalled.
The registration period would not be extended because the EC needed to conclude figures to prepare polling units for early voting, Mr Charungwit said.
As of Feb 18, 1,830,711 people registered for early voting locally outside their constituencies and 94,543 people did so for early voting in 67 other countries. Online registration is available at https://election.bora.dopa.go.th/ectoutvote/ or via the Smart Vote software application. (TNA)
