BANGKOK, Jan 26 (TNA) – The cabinet earlier this week approved in principle the budget of 5.9 billion baht for the Election Commission to organize and oversee the general election of members of the House of Representatives, according to acting government spokesperson.
Deputy Secretary-General to the Prime Minister and Acting Government Spokesperson Anucha Burapachaisri said that the cabinet approved budget at its weekly meeting on Tuesday.
The budget will be allocated for the expenses on activities related to organization and overseeing of the general election of members of the House of Representatives, to be carried out by the Election Commission, for the total budget of 5.1 billion baht.
These activities include organizing the election, preparing staffs and personnel at all levels, and organizing by-election/voting to fill vacant seats in the House of Representatives upon orders of the Election Commission.
The budget will also cover the expenses on activities related to organization and overseeing of the general election of members of the House of Representatives, to be carried out by 10 supporting agencies, for the total budget of 840 million baht.
These activities include organizing overseas voting by Ministry of Foreign Affairs, maintaining security and orderliness by the Royal Thai Police, promoting awareness on general election by Ministry of Education, delivery of ballots, election equipment, and others by Thailand Post Company Limited.
The Election Commission has set May 7, 2023 as the date for the next general election, assuming the House of Representatives completes its term on March 23. (TNA)
