BANGKOK, May 14 (TNA) – Thai voters have lined up to cast ballots in the general election, beginning at 8 am on Sunday.
Voters have two ballots, one for a local constituency representative and the other for the political party of their choice on a national level.
After the polls close at 5 pm, the Election Commission expects unofficial results will be known at 10 pm. People can follow the report on vote counts and the election results via the website https://www.ectreport.com/by-province.
About 52 million people are eligible to vote for members of a new 500-seat house of representatives.
There are 400 seats for winning constituency candidates and 100 party-list seats allocated among parties, using a proportional representation system.
The elected 500-member Lower House, along with the 250-member appointed Senate will vote to choose the premier. The winning prime minister candidate must have the votes of more than half of the combined house or 375 members. (TNA)
