BANGKOK, July 11 (TNA) — The 13th ASEAN Defence Ministers’ Meeting (ADMM) agrees to collectively promote sustainable security in the region.
Chairing the meeting set at Shangri-La Hotel on July 10-12, Deputy Prime Minister Prawit Wongsuwon said the meeting agreed with Thailand’s proposal to promote sustainable security in the region after discussing past and present issues.
The meeting also endorsed six cooperation agreements concerning ADMM’s initiatives, border management, the extension of direct communications from ASEAN to its dialogue partners, the implementation of the ASEAN Our Eyes project, the meetings of ASEAN military doctors and interactions in the sea, Gen Prawit said.
The meeting also discussed illegal fishing, human trafficking, transnational crime and security cooperation to support trade, investment, visits and disaster responses within the region.
Besides, ASEAN defence ministers insisted on the importance of peace, stability and safe flights and navigation in the South China Sea.
Gen Prawit said the meeting did not discuss any issue related to the Rakhine state of Myanmar. (TNA)
