BANGKOK, April 6 (TNA) – Thanathorn Juangroongruangkit, leader of the Future Forward Party (FFP) faced three police charges, including his alleged involvement in helping an anti-coup demonstrator escape in 2015.
Thanatorn reported to Pathumwan police station this morning after he was summonsed for alleged sedition, a violation to Section 116 of the Criminal Code.
A crowd of people was seen outside the police station as they came to give their support to Thanathorn. Representatives of the United Nations and foreign embassies were present to observe the situation.
Deputy national police chief Pol Gen Srivara Ransibrahmanakul arrived there to interrogate Thanathorn, who was accused of sedition, helping a suspect escape and assembling of more than 10 persons, which had created chaos in the country.
The charges are related to the incident on June 24, 2015 when some demonstrators including Rangsiman Rome were summonsed to the police station for the sedition charge. Rangsiman was seen left in a van, belonging to the company of Thanathorn’s mother.
Thanathorn led his FFP in winning at least 80 seats in the general election on March 24, according to preliminary results announced by the Election Commission. (TNA)
