BANGKOK, Sept 24 (TNA) – Thai Chinese descendants in Bangkok’s China Town have prepared to kick off the annual Vegetarian Festival from Sept 28 – Oct 7.
Prasit Ongwattana, chairman of the organizers said the event will be also held to celebrate His Majesty the King’s accession to the throne and to carry on Chinese tradition of observing precepts and abstain from all kinds of animal meat and animal products.
The vegetarian festival will be organized with collaboration among local residents, traders, restaurant operators in China Town and private sponsors.
It is Bangkok’s iconic vegetarian festival, attended by a large number of locals and tourists every year.
During the festival celebration, a procession will carry statues of Chinese Gods from the shrines to the Royal Jubilee Gate at Odean circle for devotees and festival goers to pay respects to the Gods throughout the 10-day event.
The Goddess of Mercy, Guanyin floral procession is among the highlights at the opening ceremony, scheduled on Sept 29.
Delicious vegetarian food will be distributed for participants. More than food stalls will offer a wide range of vegetarian and vegan dishes along Yaowarat Road. (TNA)
