BANGKOK, Sept 27 (TNA) – Thai people get ready to start
religious rituals and healthy diet in the Vegetarian Festival from Saturday to
October 7.
The Vegetarian Festival or the Nine Emperor Gods Festival
each year draws millions of devotees and practitioners to take vegetarian diet
as well as refrain from sex and alcohol consumption in the period of spiritual
cleansing.
Spiritual ceremonies in line with Chinese traditions will be
held at shrines of Chinese gods and goddesses.
In Trang, workers at a famous shrine prepared bamboo pole
called Go Teng for its Vegetarian Festival’s pole raising ceremony on Saturday.
Like at other shrines, Go Teng pole is a symbolic medium for gods to descend
from the heavens, marking the start of the festivities.
Free vegetarian meals will be available for devotees at
shrines.
For vendors, vegetables and vegetarian food ingredients are
in high demand ahead of the Festival.
Prices of some produce slightly increase this year due to recent
flooding. (TNA)
