BANGKOK, Sept 10 (TNA) – The government plans to launch the new economic stimulus measures at the end of this month to help the agricultural sector increase their production values and to increase the agriculture sector share in the country’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP), said Deputy Prime Minister Somkid Jatusripitak.
In addition to the government’s welfare card, the new assistance measure will focus on the large agricultural sector after it contributes only 3-4 percent to the country’s GDP.
New farming methods and good management in production and community enterprise clusters will make changes to the manufacturing and processing industries, the deputy minister said.
The government wants to educate farmers to adopt new technology to add values to their farm products. The pilot project can be seen in creating smart farmers, who can learn the high-tech growing methods to increase efficiency in cultivation.
The new measures will be implemented through cooperation among the Finance Ministry, the Bank for Agriculture and Agricultural Cooperatives, National Farmers Council and the Village Fund.
Finance Minister Uttama Savanayana said he would convene a meeting with those parties by the end of this month to issue grassroots rehabilitation measures through providing funding, educating farmers and improvements of the agro-industry. (TNA)
