BANGKOK, Aug 23 (TNA) — Tammy Duckworth, Bangkok-born senator of the United States, called on Prime Minister Prayut Chan-ocha and both vowed to promote comprehensive bilateral cooperation.
Ms Duckworth paid the courtesy call to Gen Prayut during her official visit to Thailand on Aug 21-23.
Welcoming her, Gen Prayut said he was pleased to know that she was invited to give a special lecture at the Chulachomklao Royal Military Academy and he was honored to meet the first Thai-born female member of the US Senate. Gen Prayut said that she was an example of a strong military officer and inspired so many people.
Ms Duckworth said she saw important developments in Thailand and was impressed with its political and economic development. She was confident that both countries that had had longstanding friendships would maintain their close ties in all dimensions. She promised to help promote bilateral cooperation on regional issues including situations in the Rakhine State of Myanmar and those on the Korean Peninsula and the South China Sea.
Gen Prayut said Thailand was ready to support the constructive roles of the US in the region. (TNA)
