NAKHON SI THAMMARAT, Dec 3 (TNA) – A mother and her child drowned during an evacuation, bringing the death toll in Nakhon Si Thammarat flood to four.
Incessant rain triggered forest run-off from Khao Luang mountain range, flowing into the municipality area, the first time in 30 years.
Maharaj Nakhon Si Thammarat hospital has been hit by flood as officials are trying to save some rooms with medical equipment by placing sandbags. They also faced difficulty in moving patients to safer areas.
Many roads remain under high floodwater and military trucks have been deployed to serve local residents.
Head of the provincial disaster prevention and mitigation office said rain has diminished. The hardest-hit areas are provincial seat and Thung Song district. Hospitals there remain opened but hospital staff struggled to evacuate patients last night.
As flooding started to recede, low-lying areas are impassable. (TNA)
