BANGKOK, June 23 (TNA) – The Finance Ministry’s Fiscal Police Office on Tuesday estimated that Middle East Respiratory Syndrome (MERS) could come under control and would not be too severe like the Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome which occurred in Thailand in 2003, said Krisda Chinavicharana, director-general of the Office.
Mr. Krisda said MERS is not expected to be severe because information is being released by concerned officials speedily and also in transparent way. Also, officials have separated passengers travelling from the Middle East and South Korea which the disease breaks out.
The Thai Pubic Health Ministry officials have also monitored those who had come into close contact with a MERS patient in which the country received praise from the United Nations World Health Organisation.
So far other countries have not warned their citizens from travelling to Thailand, unlike people in Hong Kong which received warning before making a journey to South Korea , said Mr. Krisda. Foreign visitors travelled and pass through Suvarnabhumi International Airport between June 18 – 21 continued to increase by 57.8 per cent while there was no cancellation.
In another development, Public Health Minister Dr. Rajata Rajatanavin opined that the condition of 75-year-old patient suffering from MERS from Oman is improving steadily.
Doctors at the hospital will undertake two more tests on him, said Dr. Rajata.(TNA)
