Chayaphol Thitisak, director of the department, said monsoons over the North, the Northeast and the Andaman Sea from Aug 20 to 29 caused floods in 13 provinces, mostly in the North, namely Nan, Phrae, Chiang Mai, Lampang, Phayao, Uttaradit, Lamphun, Mae Hong Son, Sukhothai, Tak, Phitsanulok, Kalasin and Sing Buri where 20,798 households were affected.
“Flooding has been alleviated in 11 provinces and remains in two provinces, Muang district of Sukhothai and Phrom Phiram district of Phitsanulok. Unless it rains, floodwater will subside there in two days,” he said.
Officials of his department, local administrative officials and soldiers moved victims’ belongings to high ground, were speeding up flood drainage and were handing out consumer products and materials for house repair.
