BANGKOK, Feb 14 (TNA) — An advisor to the Japanese prime minister met Deputy Prime Minister Somkid Jatusripitak to express Japan’s intention to invest in the Eastern Economic Corridor (EEC).
Hiroto Izumi, special advisor to the Japanese prime minister, and Mr Somkid discussed issues relating to bilateral economic cooperation and the progress of the EEC project.
Mr Somkid said he informed Mr Izumi of good progress in megaprojects related to the EEC including a high-speed railway to link three main airports and the expansion of U-Tapao airport and Laem Chabang and Map Ta Phut ports.
He also mentioned the government’s Southern Economic Corridor and East-West Corridor plans to facilitate cargo transport from Vietnam via Laos, Thailand and Myanmar to India.
“Japan attaches importance to the connection with India,” Mr Somkid said.
Mr Izumi said Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe was raising billions of US dollars from international institutions to invest in Southeast Asia and the plan focused on Thailand.
Mr Somkid will visit Japan this weekend to discuss trade and investment issues with the Japanese prime minister and Japanese economic authorities. (TNA)
