TRANG, June 19 (TNA) – A jelly fish protection barrier has been installed to protect veterinarians and volunteers while feeding Marium, the orphaned dugong calf, at Libong Island.
Prevalence of poisonous jellyfish, including dangerous box jellyfish occurs in the monsoon season in Thailand and it could disturb marine experts feeding the dugong calf milk and seagrass in the sea.
However, officials are still worrying about human activities, boat traffic and other sea creatures like sharks that might harm the baby dugong.
Right now, Marium weights about 30 kilograms and she needs to be fed every 40 minutes. Marine biologists plan to keep her under care for about six months before releasing to the open sea. (TNA)
