BANGKOK, May 7 (TNA) – The Election Commission on Tuesday
endorsed 349 constituency MPs, five weeks after the March 24 election, while
the results of party-list MPs are expected to be announced Wednesday (May 8).
The remaining one, constituency 8 in Chiang Mai province
will rerun the election on May 26 after the EC disqualified the winning Pheu
Thai Party candidate for violating the election law by donating money to a
monk.
Surapol Kietchaiyakorn of Pheu Thai is banned from politics
for one year.
Meanwhile, the EC plans to approve the party-list MPs on
Wednesday afternoon, waiting for the ruling of the Constituency Court on the
constitutionality of the EC’s formula to calculate party-list MPs for political
parties.
The ruling is expected on Wednesday morning.
The Ombudsman earlier asked the court to rule if the
calculation formula in Section 128 of the organic law on the election of MPs
contradicts Section 91 of the constitution or not. (TNA)
