BANGKOK, Nov 23 (TNA) – Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha confirmed that the next general election would be organised in February next year and representatives of political parties would be convened to discuss the issue on Dec 7.
On Dec 7, Gen Prayut said, the National Council for Peace and Order and the Election Commission would meet political parties at the Army Club to discuss obstacles and preparation for the end of political activity control in the lead-up to the next election.
In response to small political parties’ call for the election to be postponed, Gen Prayut said the Election Commission would decide on the matter.
“We have a plan on how to lift the political activity ban. It will be discussed. The government has no objections because we earlier said that when laws are passed, the political activity ban will be lifted. Regulations will be drafted as soon as possible for the effect,” the prime minister said.
Gen Prayut also said that he had not decided on his political future and he would not say at this moment if he would become a member of a political party. He was studying legal aspects of the issue.
Besides, he said that if four ministers who were members of the Palang Pracharath Party resigned from the cabinet, he would not reshuffle it because remaining ministers could take over their jobs. (TNA)
