BANGKOK, April 3 (TNA) – Operators on Khao San road in
Bangkok agree to suspend their Songkran festival celebrations this year to pave
the way for coronation-related ceremonies.
Piyabut Jiwaramonaikul, president of the Khao San Road
Business Association, said local operators made the decision because there
would be grand ceremonies related to the coronation of His Majesty King Maha
Vajiralongkorn in the vicinity on the historical Rattanakosin Island area.
The landscapes of the areas would be improved for the
ceremonies, he said.
“2019 is the greatly auspicious year of all Thai citizens.
There will be ceremonies for the coronation of His Majesty King Maha
Vajiralongkorn. The Thai government has planned the ceremonies and their routes
grandly,” Mr Piyabut said.
Normally operators on Khao San Road and government agencies
organized traditional and entertainment activities on the road during the
Songkran Thai New Year festival and such activities had continued for more than
four decades, he said. (TNA)
