BANGKOK, Jan 10 (TNA) – The Department of Employment warned Thai labourers not to be duped by online job scammers, convincing Thai workers to work as berry pickers in Finland and Sweden.
The department’s director-general, Petcharat Sin-auy said it found social media posts invited Thai workers for the picking bilberries job in Sweden and Finland.
She said the application for the jobs has not opened and the fruit-picking season is between July to September every year. It is a tough job because it is mountainous areas. Sometimes, workers have to walk for a long distance in the cold weather.
It costs around 60,000 – 70,000 baht per head to go to work there including the air tickets, she added.
The department is negotiating with the two countries on the quota and labour protection for Thai workers.
