BANGKOK, DEC 11 (TNA) – Thailand’s military junta lifts
the ban on political activities imposed since the coup in 2014, paving the way
for the February 24 election.
The National Council for Peace and Order (NCPO) on Tuesday
announced that nine junta orders, spelling out prohibitions on political
activities, were nullified.
Its latest order has been published on the Royal Gazette.
The junta last week reaffirmed the date for the polling and
its “roadmap to democracy” with an election decree will be issued in January.
According to government officials, the election result will
be announced within two months of the poll as required by laws. The new legislative assembly is expected to
hold its first meeting to select prime minister by May 9.
For the ruling NCPO, its role will gradually fade beginning
on December 28, the last day it will propose legislation.(TNA)
