BANGKOK, Sept 20 (TNA) — Agriculture and Cooperatives Minister Chalermchai Sri-on said he was satisfied with solutions to cope with flooding in Chi and Mun river basins in the Northeast and damage surveys would be concluded in a week.
The Royal Irrigation Department was quickly draining floodwater in Ubon Ratchathani province as ordered and evacuated flood victims should be able to return home from today onwards, the minister said. He believed floodwater would disappear from the northeastern province within Sept 29.
“It is very good news. Afterwards the Royal Irrigation Department will speed up draining floodwater from low-lying areas. I told it not to totally drain the water but to find areas to retain part of the water for use in the dry season,”
Mr Chalermchai said that surveys of flood-damaged areas would be finished in a week because victims needed urgent help.
The minister also said that he was concerned about flood situations in Kaset Wisai and Selaphum districts of Roi Et province because it rained heavily in Borabue district standing upstream from both districts last night. (TNA)
