BANGKOK, Aug 22 (TNA) – Thailand will host the ASEAN Ministers on Energy Meeting and Associated Meeting: 37th AMEM) from September 2-6.
Energy Minister Sonthirat Sonthijirawong said the meeting will be held under the theme “Advancing Energy Transition through Partnership and Innovation”, which will focus on cooperation in development of technology and energy innovation, so that ASEAN will enter a transition period to the era of sustainable energy in the future.
Among the plans to achieve the goals is supporting Thailand to be the hub of LNG distribution, spearheaded by oil & gas firm PTT PCL.
During the AMEM, ASEAN’s senior officials will meet on September 2-3 in preparation for the minister level meeting on the following two days.
Thai Prime Minister Gen Prayut Chan-ocha will preside over the opening of the meeting.
Besides, ASEAN Energy Business Forum (AEBF) will be held to showcase technology and innovation on energy by business operators as well as a seminar on “Renewable Energy Innovation Week”.
International experts will have opportunities to exchange knowledge while the state and private sectors will promote innovation on renewable energy to attract investors.
The ASEAN Energy Award presentation ceremony will be held to promote use of alternative energy and energy conservation. (TNA)
