BANGKOK, Aug 22 (TNA) – Thai immigration police arrested a Chinese man, wanted by Chinese authorities for selling toxic slimming pills online, causing damage of about 15 million baht.
Immigration Bureau Chief Pol Lt Gen Sompong Chingduang said that the immigration police have cracked down on foreigners, using Thailand as their base to commit crimes.
In the latest case, Qing Li, 32 with an arrest warrant, issued by Chinese authorities was detained.
He confessed to selling fake weight loss pills on WeChat application to Chinese consumers, who fell ill after product intake. They filed complaints to Chinese police. The examination of the product found it was substandard and contaminated with toxic substances.
His associates were arrested by Chinese police but Qing Li fled to Thailand.
Pol Lt Gen Sompong said the Immigration Police Bureau have conducted routine checks on entertainment venues and factories, hotels and condominiums to prevent foreigners from using Thailand as their hideouts or bases for committing wrongdoings. (TNA)
