BANGKOK, Feb 16 — A committee tasked with preparing Thailand for the ASEAN Community met today to consider Thailand’s plans for the three pillars of the ASEAN Community from 2016 to 2020, as well as law improvement.
Gen Tanasak Patimapragorn, deputy prime minister/foreign minister, chaired the meeting of the committee at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
The ministers of social development and human security, education, energy, labour, justice and culture, ministerial executives and representatives of the private sector attended the meeting.
The committee was formed by order of the Prime Minister’s Office on Nov 14, 2014, to ensure that Thailand will participate well in the ASEAN Community through its three pillars and that concerned agencies will work well with one another to support smooth participation.
The committee also discussed Thailand’s policies, strategies, directions and stances relating to cooperation in the ASEAN framework.
The meeting formed four sub-committees to handle activities concerning ASEAN politics and security, the ASEAN Economic Community, ASEAN civil society and cultures, and public relations.
The committee also discussed urgent issues, problems and obstacles as well as legal amendments to facilitate Thailand’s participation in the ASEAN Community. (MCOT online news)
