BANGKOK, July 10 (TNA) — The Industrial Estate Authority of Thailand (IEAT) is confident of flood prevention at industrial estates despite predicted rainwater increase this year.
IEAT governor Somchint Pilouk said the Meteorological Department predicted more rainwater in the rainy season that would end in October, so IEAT already ordered the management of industrial estates to stand by for possible flooding especially those in flood-prone areas such as the Bangpoo Industrial Estate in Samut Prakan province that stood close to the sea.
“The Bangpoo Industrial Estate is vulnerable. Its drainage and flood prevention systems must be maintained… Canals that receive water from the estate were dredged. This improves the drainage system and prevents impacts on nearby communities,” Ms Somchint said.
The management of industrial estates were assigned to check the strength of flood embankments, water pumps, generators and the supplies of fuel and sandbags, she said.
“IEAT is confident that all measures will cope with heavy rains and protect operators at all industrial estates and nearby communities,” the IEAT governor said. (TNA)
