BANGKOK, Feb 21 (TNA) — The Foreign Ministry honored the officials who brought Thai people back safely from Wuhan city in the Chinese province of Hubei.
Foreign Minister Don Pramudwinai presided over a ceremony to present honorary pins and certificates to 14 officials from the government and the private sector who proved to devote themselves for the safety of Thai people earlier stranded in Wuhan after the outbreak of the new coronavirus.
“The mission prioritized the safety of officials and Thai people in the risk area. We did not want to compete with any party. This success deserves high praise. I confirm that the government was not negligent. It offered help in an organized manner which led to the success,” Mr Don said.
The minister said that he met his Chinese counterpart Wang Yi during the 5th Lancang-Mekong Cooperation Foreign Ministers’ Meeting in Laos. He said he thanked China for helping Thai people and Mr Wang thanked Thailand for its support for China. Mr Wang said that when the disease situation was alleviated in Thailand, Chinese tourists would certainly pay their visits.
Mr Don also thanked Thai people for donations to Thai and Chinese people in China. The donations significantly supported the care for Thai people in China and showed friendships between both countries, the foreign minister said. (TNA)
