BANGKOK, Aug 7 (TNA) — Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha said he assigned Foreign Minister Don Pramudwinai to take the concurrent role as a deputy prime minister so that the latter could invite foreign investors to Thailand.
Besides, he added the post of a deputy labour minister to make the Labour Ministry an economic ministry.
The additional position for Mr Don was aimed at assigning the Foreign Ministry to also handle economic affairs. Foreign affairs concerned not only international relations but also investment. Mr Don would represent the prime minister and invite foreign businesspeople to invest in Thailand to stimulate the economy after the COVID-19 crisis improved, Gen Prayut said.
Asked why the new position of the deputy labour minister was necessary, the prime minister said the Labour Ministry was actually an economic ministry and would try to create jobs and develop Thai skilled workers and foremen. The new deputy labour minister is former government spokesperson Narumon Pinyosinwat.
“There are people who either like or dislike individuals. Economic affairs are not personal matters but depend on the policies of the cabinet and the prime minister,” Gen Prayut said.
Asked if Anucha Burapachaisri, secretary to the education minister, would become the new government spokesman, the prime minister said many people were nominated to the position and he had yet to make the choice. (TNA)
