BANGKOK, Jan 29 (TNA) – Thai Prime Minister Prayut
Chan-o-cha on Wednesday inspected the screening of travellers for coronavirus
at Suvarnabhumi Airport and assured that the precautionary measures are in line
with international standards.
Prayut visited Suvarnabhumi Airport, one of five airports in
Thailand conducting health screening for coronavirus since January 3, to boost
morale of the health officials.
The prime minister and Cabinet minister observed the
screening of international passengers and expressed their support for the
operation.
Prayut reiterated that the government had been able to fully
contain the outbreak of the Wuhan coronavirus after stepping up its monitoring
and assessment.
The government’s effective measures were carried out under
international standards and the screenings of international passengers were
done thoroughly, he said.
There have been 14 confirmed virus infection cases in
Thailand, five have recovered and been discharged from hospital while the rest
are given treatments at hospitals.
The prime minister also informed that the government was
ready to evacuate 65 Thai people living in Wuhan whenever the Chinese
government gives permission.
Thailand and China had coordinated on the matter through
diplomatic channels while the Thai Embassy in Beijing had provided assistance
to the Thai citizens, he added. (TNA)
