BANGKOK, May 3 (TNA) – Thailand’s King Maha
Vajiralongkorn pays homage to the Emerald Buddha at Wat Phra Kaew or the Temple
of the Emerald Buddha in a final ritual on the eve of the three-day coronation
ceremony.
The King lighted a candle at 4.19 p.m., a propitious time as
advised by astrologers, and paid his respect to the sacred Emerald Buddha as
Buddhist monks chanted.
Earlier, the Royal Golden Plaques bearing his name and
horoscope and the Royal Seal were moved from the Temple of the Emerald Buddha
to the Grand Palace in an elaborate procession.
The three items will be presented to the King along with
five royal regalia in the coronation Saturday morning, the kingdom’s first in
69 years since his father, the late King Bhumibol Adulyadej, was crowned in
1950.
King Maha Vajiralongkorn or King Rama X ascended to the
throne after the passing of his revered father in October 2016. He is the 10th king of the Chakri dynasty
that has ruled Thailand since 1782.(TNA)
