BANGKOK, March 21 (TNA) – The overseas voter turnout reached 82.52 per cent and the remaining cast ballot papers will arrive in Thailand by tomorrow morning, two days before Thailand’s General Election on March 24, said Director-General of the Department of Consular Affairs, Chatree Atchananand.
He said 119,232 voters registered for overseas voting and of this number, 98,386 people cast their votes at diplomatic missions or about 82.52 per cent.
Most overseas voters or 8,820 people are reported to exercise their right at the Royal Thai Consulate-General in Sydney, followed by the Thai embassies in London and Tokyo respectively.
Out of all 94 Thai Embassies and Consulates-General, 81 have already sent the ballots back to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
The remaining cast ballots will arrive by tomorrow morning. They will be sorted and delivered to all 350 voting constituencies nationwide.
He assured that the delivery by special processes will be completed in time for the vote counting.
Obstacles during the overseas voting will be discussed with the Election Commission later for improvement in the future. (TNA)
