BANGKOK, Aug 5 (TNA) — The National Science and Technology Development Agency (NSTDA) and Mercedes-Benz Manufacturing (Thailand) Co signed an agreement to jointly research on batteries for electric vehicles.
NSTDA president Narong Sirilertworakul said that under the agreement, his agency’s Electrical and Electronic Products Testing Center (PTEC) would function as the first vehicular battery testing center of Thailand and Southeast Asia. It would receive technologies on electric vehicles and their batteries from Mercedes-Benz to support its tests that would begin with batteries for plug-in hybrid electric vehicles this year.
PTEC was ready for battery tests at the levels of battery cells, modules and packs and Mercedes-Benz would transfer its knowledge on various types of tests covering battery lifetimes and durability under circumstances such as flooding, dirt roads, severe vibration and extreme temperature fluctuations, Mr Sirilert said.
PTEC would play important roles in energy production innovation in the country, including the production of backup power systems for residences, factories and power plants, he said. (TNA)
