CHUMPHON, June 21 (TNA) — Police arrested two Thai and Laotian men with the possession of 100 kilograms of crystal meth worth about 300 million baht as they were heading for the border in Songkhla province.
The arrest happened at a checkpoint on Phet Kasem Highway in Ban Phala village of Pa Thiu district.
The men and another accomplice were traveling on two vehicles. One of them was stopped at the checkpoint and police found the bag of the narcotics. The other vehicle that led it was parked at a nearby gas station and its driver fled the scene.
Two Thai suspects were identified only as Thanatpong and Pannawit. Their gang had networks in Thailand and Laos. The seized drug was smuggled from the border in Nong Khai province and destined for a buyer in Hat Yai district of Songkhla province.
In another development, Panuwat Yanumatpusit, 36 of Chiang Khong district in Chiang Rai province, was arrested with 105kg of crystal meth on Chiang Mai-Lampang Highway in Muang district of Lamphun province.
He told police he received the drug from two men called only as Yia and Pao in Mae Taeng district of Chiang Mai but he refused to tell police where he would deliver the “ice”. (TNA)
