BANGKOK, April 29 (TNA) — The State Railway of Thailand will form a working group this week to cope with a court order for it to pay a huge compensation to Hopewell (Thailand) Co and expects to start negotiation early next month.
Acting SRT governor Worawut Mala informed the Transport Ministry of the planned formation in response to the Supreme Administrative Court’s order for the state enterprise to pay about 25 billion baht in compensation for its early termination of the Hopewell elevated road and public transit project concession about 20 years ago.
Mr Worawut said the SRT board resolved that the SRT set up the working group and the SRT was inviting relevant organizations to send their representatives to sit in it. The invitations went to the Office of the Attorney-General, the Budget Bureau and the Comptroller-General’s Department, for example.
The working group would be formed this week and start its meeting right away. Early in May, it would contact Hopewell for negotiation. The process would be completed within the 180-day deadline that the Supreme Administrative Court set for the payout, Mr Worawut said. (TNA)
