BANGKOK, Oct 15 (TNA) – The Interior Minister assured that compensation money will be paid to all flood victims by the end of this month while authorities need to prepare for fluctuating weathers across the country in the coming months.
Each household will receive 5,000 baht in compensation by the end of this month, said Interior Minister Gen. Anupong Paochinda.
Out of all 35,000 houses, damaged by tropical storms and flooding, almost 20,000 houses have been repaired in the post-flood rehabilitation in the wake of tropical storms Podul and Kajiki, which hit several Thai provinces last month.
Local authorities are speeding up damage survey on farmlands, estimated to cover 190,000 rai (76,000 acres), he added. Overall infrastructure has been fixed.
Currently, the authorities are preparing for fluctuating weather conditions in the coming months when a cold spell in the North could prolong until February next year, he said. Blankets will be distributed to people in remote and mountainous areas.
In the southern region, heavy downpours could trigger flash flood and drought could potentially hit other regions. Farmers will be warned to adapt their farming cultivation plans to suit the water situations. (TNA)
