PHANG-NGA, April 25 (TNA) – A big bike is a new addition
to the “underwater museum” in Thailand’s Khao Lak beach town.
Located six kilometers off the coast of Khao Lak in
Phang-nga province, the underwater museum project was launched two years ago to
create a new attraction and artificial reefs in a bid to revive the community
hit by the 2004 Indian Ocean Tsunami.
On Thursday, officials led by Phang-nga Governor Siripat
Pattakhul took part in placing the motorbike into the water.
Also called “maritime study center,” the underwater site has
decommissioned army trucks, navy boats and sculptures of sea turtles among its
entries on about one-square-kilometer area.
Rak Khaolak Foundation who initiated the project in
cooperation with several government and local agencies aims to revive tourism
and marine life in areas devastated in the 2004 Tsunami.
Governor Siripat who took a dive with the motorbike said
more statues would be added to tell the story of the culture of Phang Nga and
enhance the site as a prime tourist spot.
This project was built as habitats for marine life and
alternative snorkeling and diving attraction, he said. (TNA)
