BANGKOK, March 25 (TNA) – Thailand’s election reflects
people’s mood for political stability, say leading business groups who also
urge smooth transition toward a civilian government.
Paiboon Nalinthrangkurn, chairman of the Federation of Thai
Capital Market Organizations, said Monday that Palang Pracharath Party would
likely lead a coalition government.
If the party was able to form a coalition of 300 out of 500
seats in the House of Representatives, it would lead a stable government and
greatly boost investors’ confidence, Paiboon said.
With strong confidence, about Bt100 billion worth of foreign
investment could be expected in the Stock Exchange of Thailand (SET), he said.
Kavee Chukitkasem, Assistant Managing Director of
KSecurities, commented that the new coalition government would struggle in the
lower house due to strong opposition.
But he viewed that the country’s politics would have only
short-term impact on the capital investment while the global economic outlook
would be more have greater impact.
Kalin Sartasin, Chairman of the Thai Chamber of Commerce,
said the private sector hoped for continuity of economic development platform
to create an environment conducive for foreign investment and tourism.
Stability and order were essential for economic growth, he
added.
Many current government policies, he said, should be
continued; such as the Eastern Economic Corridor (EEC).
Thanawat Polvichai, director of the Economic and Business Forecast
Centre of the University of Thai Chamber of Commerce, said the Sunday’s polls
reflected the people’s wish for a government who could solve economic problems
and political stability.
He also sees Palang Pracharath Party wielding highest chance
to successfully form the next government with Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha
retaining the top post.
Meanwhile, President, Housing Business Association Atip
Peechanont said whichever party leading the next government he wished for
stability.
Good policies of the current government ought to be
continued because it would maintain Thailand’s competitive edge, said Atip.
