SUKHOTHAI, Feb 22 (TNA) – The Cobra Gold military drills ended with the Combined Arms Live Fire Exercise (CALFEX) in Sukhothai after almost 10,000 soldiers from 29 countries involved in the 11-day drills.
Thai Chief of the Defence Forces, Gen Pornpipat Benyasri, Charge d’ Affaires ad interim of the US Embassy, Peter M Haymond, and Admiral Philip S. Davidson, the US Navy Commander for the US Indo-Pacific Command on Friday presided over the closing ceremony at the Third Army Area Training Field in Sukhothai’s Ban Dan Lan Hoi District.
About 725 personnel from Thailand, the U.S., Indonesia, Malaysia and Singapore participated in CALFEX.
Cobra Gold is one of the largest theater security cooperation exercises in the Indo-Pacific to improve the capabilities of participating nations in planning and conducting combined and joint operations.
The annual event, held in Thailand also builds relationships among participating nations across the region.
This year’s exercise consisted of a staff exercise, humanitarian civic assistance projects and a field training exercise. (TNA)
