BANGKOK, Dec 28 (TNA) — Many highways are more congested compared with traffic conditions yesterday as snarl-ups are expected this evening after the end of the last weekday of the year.
Heavy traffic started on Mitraparp Highway in Nakhon Ratchasima province last night and congestion happened especially at bottlenecks and uphill sections in Pak Chong and Si Khiu districts of the northeastern province. Highway police opened special outbound lanes in Khlong Phai and Lad Buakhao subdistricts of Si Khiu district.
The local disaster prevention and mitigation office reported 33 road accidents in four provinces in the lower Northeast, which killed two people in Nakhon Ratchasima and Buri Ram provinces and injured 33 others.
In Chiang Mai province, its third bus terminal was crowded with outgoing travelers. Pannee Pumpan, Chiang Mai land transport chief, said departure would peak in a few days and 400-500 inter-provincial bus trips would be operated daily instead of the normal service of 200 trips a day.
There were 19 accidents in the northern province yesterday, one was killed and 20 people were injured.
In the eastern province of Sa Kaeo, traffic was slow on Highway 348 and Highway 3308 to the lower Northeast. Paradol Rungrojteera, disaster mitigation chief of Sa Kaeo, said there were eight accidents which killed one and injured nine people yesterday. (TNA)
