PHITSANULOK, DEC 26 (TNA) – Two South Korean elderly men remain missing after falling into the Nan River at a golf resort in Thailand’s Phitsanulok province on Christmas Day.
Jun Yong Sung, 68 and Jaseoong Ha, 76, have drowned in the river after completing their round and returning to clubhouse.
Jaseoong Ha was on the first cart with his wife waiting on a ferry to cross the river when the other buggy carrying Jun Yong Sung and his wife failed to stop in time and hit the first cart from the rear.
Jun Yong Sung then jumped into the river trying to help the couple but later disappeared along with Jaseoong Ha.
Jaseoong Ha’s wife was rescued by a local resident while Thai caddie who also plunged into the river after being bumped by the cart managed to swim to the riverbank.
Rescuers started search operation right after the incident until suspended Tuesday night. They resumed the search Wednesday morning but have found no signs of the two golfers.
More divers joined the operation in the 14-meter-deep river with fast-moving and murky water, police said.
South Korean consular officials have been informed and observed the search and rescue operation as the two men are presumed dead after missing for over 24 hours.
Phitsanulok Governor Piphat Ekphaphan instructed coordinated operation and assessment of the tragic incident to improve safety in the golf resort.
He hinted that golfers should not be allowed to operate golf cart because lacking skills. 
The Governor also visited Jaseoong Ha’s wife who was hospitalized at Pitsanuvej Hospital. (TNA)
