BANGKOK, Dec 18 (TNA) — The Department of Land Transport said that it will be carrying out strict checks on all public buses and drivers as the New Year break looms.
Department of Land Transport Director General Peerapol Thavornsupacharoen said that the Department will be carrying out intensive checks on all bus drivers and their vehicles in preparation of the mass exodus to the provinces during the New Year break.
The main priority is alcohol checks on drivers at every checkpoint and rest-stops on every route.
Mr Peerapol said that a target of zero deaths involving public transport has been set while the Ministry of Transport has stressed that no passenger will be left stranded and ordering the Department to oversee the management of additional buses to meet any shortfalls.
The Director-General also led a delegation of reporters to see the launching of the ‘Smart Bus Terminal’ system that will provide commuters with real-time bus schedules and time-tables via Apps on mobile devices.
This will allow more accurate travel arrangements to be made ahead of time because real-time arrivals and departures of buses will be shown and passengers will no longer have to endure long waiting periods before embarkation. (TNA)
