BANGKOK, Nov 9 (TNA) — The prime minister has ordered the Eastern Economic Corridor Policy Committee to add national defence and education development to its list of target industries, according to secretary-general of the committee Kanit Sangsubhan.
Mr Kanit said Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha, as chair of the committee, laid down the order which increased the number of target industries of the Eastern Economic Corridor (EEC) from 10 to 12.
Besides, the committee acknowledged a master plan and a new law for the EEC development and approved projects to link three main airports with a high-speed railway, expand U-Tapao airport and Laem Chabang and Map Ta Phut ports, and build an aircraft maintenance centre at U-Tapao airport and a digital industrial estate.
The committee also allocated 14.86 billion baht for 14 ministries to promote the EEC. It expects the EEC to attract investment worth 100 billion baht a year in the next five years. The committee also plans to expand the EEC in the future. (TNA)
