BANGKOK, Oct 27 (TNA) – The National Blood Center expects blood supply in stock will be stable and sufficient for demands in life-saving transfusions if daily blood donations remain high at 2,500 units.
The blood bank has faced blood shortage due to high demand in cancer treatment and operations.
Pawinee Kupthawintu, deputy director of the National Blood Center, Thai Red Cross Society said after public campaign had been launched to encourage public members to donate their blood, it received blood donations from voluntary donors of about 2,500 units per day, increased from 1,500 units.
Much-increased volume of blood donations helped improve the situation, which could return to normal at the beginning of next month.
However, it still needs to keep blood donations at this level to maintain blood stock at the appropriate level and to prepare for mass travelling during the New Year celebration when the country’s road accidents are normally higher than the usual period.
She said demand for blood increased every year in hospitals in need, particularly in the northeastern region with the highest demand, compared other regions. (TNA)
