BANGKOK, July 15 (TNA) – Thai Buddhists are likely to be more
stringent in spending for the upcoming Buddhist Lent this year amid slow
economic recovery.
The three-month Buddhist Lent starting from Wednesday will
see people spending for goods and merit-making ceremonies. Most consumers make their decision to spend
only on essential items.
As Buddhist Lent and Asanha Bucha Day on Tuesday are public
holidays, many Thais have planned to spend money for vacations.
While Thai people are worried about the costs of living and
the increased prices of goods, Internal Trade Department has vowed to monitor
prices of Buddhism-related goods.
Director-general of the Internal Trade Department Vichai
Pochanakij said consumers could file complaints of overpricing or mislabeling
directly with the Department’s hotline.
He warned retailers of heavy fine and prosecution for
breaching consumer protection laws.(TNA)
