BANGKOK, July 3 (TNA) — The University of the Thai Chamber of Commerce expects 5.29 billion baht will be circulated on the Asalha Puja Day and the Buddhist Lent Day amid economic and pandemic concerns.
Thanavath Phonvichai, chief advisor to UTCC’s Center for Economic and Business Forecasting, said a survey on 1,234 people sampled nationwide found that 66.1% of them were worried about the economic slowdown, the coronavirus disease 2019 pandemic, fear of unemployment, debts and rising expenses.
The center predicted that people would spend 5.29 billion baht during the holidays on July 6 and 7, down by 21% to the lowest level in six years, he said.
The survey also showed that the most common activities on the holidays will be alms-giving, merit-making, candlelit processions, eating out and relaxation at home.
Mr Thanavath said the government should issue measures to ensure health safety to create confidence among domestic tourists and stimulate the economy. (TNA)
