BANGKOK, Sept 8 (TNA) – The cabinet allocated 4,254.36 million baht to acquire 12 million more doses of the COVID-19 vaccine made by Sinovac.
Government spokesman Thanakorn Wangboonkongchana said the cabinet approved the spending to buy the additional doses of the Sinovac vaccine to mainly protect specific groups of people from COVID-19.
They were people with chronic diseases – severe respiratory diseases, cardiovascular diseases, renal failure, stroke, cancer with chemotherapy, diabetes and obesity.
Other target groups covered people aged 60 and over, frontline officials responsible for COVID-19 control including those at disease control checkpoints along borders and quarantine facilities, military personnel, police and collectors of infectious waste. General people who lived in Thailand would also receive the vaccine, Mr Thanakorn said.
The acquisition of the 12 million additional vaccine doses was a part of the government’s efforts to provide people with COVID-19 vaccinations and also supported the mix-and-match administration of different COVID-19 vaccines, the spokesman said. (TNA)
