BURI RAM, May 27 (TNA) – Two ancient lintels are expected to arrive from the United States tomorrow (May 28) after the Culture Ministry had demanded their return for four years.
One ancient lintel belonged to Prasat Khao Lon historical sanctuary in Sa Kaeo province and the other to Prasat Nong Hong in Buri Ram.
They were set for arrival at Suvarnabhumi airport at about 6.30pm on May 28. The Fine Arts Department planned to exhibit them at the Bangkok National Museum on May 31.
Assoc Prof Sorachet Worakhamwichai, an experienced historian and former director of the Buri Ram cultural council, said the lintel of Prasat Nong Hong was a valuable asset and its reinstallation at the ancient sanctuary would raise the public awareness that the site had been a part of an ancient prosperous community and deserved conservation.
It could be developed as a learning center and an important tourist attraction for the economic interest of local people, he said. (TNA)
