BANGKOK, Dec 3 (TNA) — The permanent secretary for interior has ordered provincial officials to intensify their operations to control the novel coronavirus after the disease import by illegal Thai returnees from Myanmar.
Chatchai Phromlert, permanent secretary of the Ministry of Interior, ordered provincial governors to watch out for illegal returnees and immigrants. The order focused on border provinces in all regions.
He also assigned provincial authorities to check disease control measures at at-risk places including department stores, schools, restaurants, business premises, entertainment places, stadiums and tourist destinations.
Besides, headmen of villages and sub-districts and village-based health volunteers were ordered to check the people who return to their communities and ask people, operators and event organizers to implement disease control measures including the use of face masks, social distancing, the disinfection of surfaces and the use of Thaichana app for check-ins and checkouts at visited places.
The movement followed reports on 10 Thai women who sneaked back from work in Myanmar’s border town of Tachileik to Chiang Rai province and travelled inside the country while carrying COVID-19.
The intensified disease control efforts were aimed at building confidence for celebrations and vacations during the New Year festival. (TNA)
