BANGKOK, Sept 16 (TNA) – The Cabinet on Tuesday approved long-term tourist visas of up to 270 days as the government prepares to reopen to foreign tourists to support tourism reeling from the pandemic.
Deputy government spokeswoman Traisulee Traisaranakul said about the plan that the 90-day special tourist visa costs 2,000 baht and can be extended twice.
Visitors who apply for the special tourist visa must agree to comply with a14-day quarantine and public health measures in Thailand.
The government targets tourists from low-risk or no-risk countries, who come for travel or health services.
The spokeswoman said long-stay visitors are required to show proof of payment for hotel accommodation or condominium rooms for their long stay in the country after the completion of their mandatory quarantine process at alternative state quarantine facilities.
The special tourist visa is aimed at drawing quality tourists to help drive the Thai economy, tourism and related businesses, she said.
The tourism industry has been hard hit by the Covid-19 pandemic and a travel ban was imposed to control the spread of the coronavirus. (TNA)
