BANGKOK, Dec 14 (TNA) – The Huai Khang district chief has ordered the closure of the Jodd Fairs market behind Central Plaza Rama 9 until renovations are completed to enhance safety.
After the fire which occurred at the market around 4.30 p.m. on Wednesday was put out, the inspection on damages found that four blocks and a total of 120 shops, mostly fashion boutiques were affected.
The district office has established a coordinating team to assist and provide relief to those impacted by the incident, offering 11,000 baht per affected shop. Victims are required to prepare documents such as ID cards and lease agreements.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation but the police initially believe an electric short circuit caused a fire. There was a report of one minor injury from smoke inhalation, a female who chose not to seek hospital treatment.
The district chief Paitoon Ngammuk said that the area has been declared hazardous, and the entire space will remain closed until it is deemed safe to reopen, a process that may take 7, 15, or more days depending on the ability of business owners to make necessary improvements.
However, increased safety measures, such as directional signs and other symbols, will be implemented to prevent similar incidents. Special attention will be given to businesses using heat for cooking.
Regarding the estimated damage cost, the recovery efforts are anticipated to amount to approximately 1.3 million baht.
